Has anyone ever done a cervical biopsy that did not report "cervicitis"? Leukocytes are present on all Pap smears done in the luteal phase of the cycle. I would conservatively estimate that our cyto-pathologists report inflammation or benighn inflammatory changes on over 50% of all Paps. If this woman is a non-smoker, no history of HPV, monogamous presently, and otherwise low risk, I would only do annual Pap smears. BTW, I thought our Canadian brethren only did Paps every three years. Ron

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
