Ultrasound screening in adavanced maternal age.

I would like the opinion of the group on ultrasound evaluation in AMA patient that decline amniocentesis. I realize there are varied opinions in the literature (RADIUS, Dateline etc.), but I would like to know what this group does.

If a patient declines amnio, do you recommend an ultrasound.

If you recommend ultrasound, do you: Do it in your office Send the patient to radiology Send the patient to an MFM (if available)

As a perinatal person, I have recommended offering a scan these patients. However, when I was an OB/GYN in Fargo, without perinatal, this wasn't an option. We relied on maternal serum and radiology ultrasound.

Thanks,

Lynn

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
