If the appendix is readily accessible, why not spend 2 minutes and forever remove the possibility of appendicitis. I had a patient a couple of years ago, and after the hysterectomy began the appy ( a wee 4 cm. appendage; my assistant, a general surgeon remarked "Why bother? That little appendix will never cause her a problem!" How surprized we both were when a tiny carcinoid was found. A close colleague a few years prior to that incident lost his wife to this very tumor. ? A little wary?? You bet!! J.Glenn Bradley MD

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
