The use of ergotamine post-partum to "contract the uterus", is certainly not standard practice around my neck of the woods. I occasionally use it when pitocin fails to do the job, before trying parenteral prostaglandin (Hemabate), but virtually never use oral ergotamine postpartum. I also vaguely remember some contention that it prevents lactation or let-down or something. I'm sure one of the listers will remember te reference. Ron
