<< There is currently a big swing from forceps to vacuum in UK. There is much evidence in favour of this swing in published papers and also on Cochrane. There has recently been some doubts expressed about the various studies. Basically though the evidence favours vacuum in terms of short and medium term maternal outcomes, with neonatal outcomes being similar. Malcolm Griffiths >>

The big swing happened in the states about 5 to 10 years ago and vacuums and low forceps seem to have about the same maternal and fetal morbidity.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
