Absolutely. I take care of most of our "in-house" HMO staff (the insurance plan that covers all of our hospital employees in the Orlando area) and they tell me that there is a protocol, which is really a flow chart, that they use to approve or disapprove treatments and procedures. Mind you, most of these ladies have zero medical education, and simply go down the progress note looking for such things as uterine size, NSAID use, etc. Unless you ask to speak to an R.N. or an M.D. (or D.O.) then you are hosed. Now that I know the "system" I include the things they look for (while being honest, of course) and I rarely get refused. It *is* a pain.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
