I never used one. Infact I've only once seen one. I've worked in dozens of units who've gotten by fine without them.

You need an IUPC to spot a scar dehiscence like yo need a microscope to spot an elephant in your wardrobe ! Malcolm Griffiths >>

Geff

I prefer to use an IUPC in all of our VBAC pts. if for no other reason than insure that we are not overstimulating the uterus with pitocin. I am not sure if this is the standard of care or not, but at one time I though the ACOG Committee Opinion of VBAC was to have an IV in place, Type and Screen and IUPC. Will have to double check on it.

Malcomb, If you do not use IUPC's then who sits by the bedside to document quality of contractions before a section is done on a patient for non progression of her labor. You or the nurse???

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
