Dear Politically Correct Ron:

The reference you requested:

Obstetrics and Gynecology, Volume 86, No. 3, Sept 1995 'Latency Period After Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes, A Comparison of Ampicillin With and Without Sulbactam'

Prolonging latency with resultant lower neonatal morbidity, increased birthweight, decreased RDS, would seem to be a good reason.

"Please, a reference or something" for the assertion that the concomittent use of steroids may somehow contraindicate the use of antibiotics. No randomized studies to date that I am aware of support this assertion.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
