Re: Hysterectomy on demand

The media is not interested in the truth, their real interest is to sell their medium. If they were to poll a group of women for hysterectomies on demand the question they ask would be: Do you believe that there are too many hysterectomies done today?. Yes or No. It will be a headliner if the majority said yes. It would not appear in the news if it was otherwise. I do not have a problem with the exaggerations and hyperbole present in the media, their main purpose is to make money. If people do not use their medium will go out of business. It is the consumers who enjoy the media and the medium reacts to the market. I doubt most people would enjoy seeing news of educational basis if it was not hyped to express some sort of outrage or some extreme situation.

"Perhaps if the media actually polled women about their thoughts on hysterectomy they would see that many of us perform far fewer hysterectomies than we could. The "doctor bashing" about hysterectomies is very out of place."

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
