Low Molecular weight Heparin in pregnancyFrom: John & Sylvia Robertson (jsrobert@uniserve.com)Fri Aug 29 17:32:48 1997
Have a patient who had a very traumatic pregnancy with PE requiring ICU admission and ventilation. Although she is quite inteligent and aware of the potential risks of a future pregnancy she is still contemplating one. She is also somewhat resistant to 9(+) months of heparin which she has been told is necessary. I have revied some of the OBGYN-L discussion on Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMW Heparin) and have done a lit search using the engine provided by OBGYN.net (Thank you Roberta and sponsors!) and have come up with 2 recent articles on approx 40 and 60 patients respectively. This seems fairly experimental to me at present, but I am interested in other peoples experiences and thoughts. Thanks In another vien (pun intended), after the recent discussion on abuse in women, I have recently started to ask all new patients about past or present abuse and am getting more posative responses than negative ones. Unlike the original poster I practice in a mostly farming community that is considered to be a bit of a bible belt. It is obviously much more common than I had originally thougt. Thank you to the original poster for prodding me into taking a more complete history. John J.G.M. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
