Re: Verres vs trocarFrom: ATFSOCCER@aol.comSun Aug 24 22:35:55 1997
In a message dated 97-08-22 03:40:35 EDT, you write:
<< Have you ever perforated the bowel with a Verres needle? Noticed or
>unnoticed requiring a take-back operation? A Veress needle puncture of healthy bowel is (IMHO) of no consequence at all. Patient just passes wind on assistant if you put in enough gas ! >> 12 years ago I had a single veress needle puncture of the transverse colon. Recognized immediately and patient admitted to the hospital for observation and antibiotic therapy. Developed severe abdominal pain and peritoneal signs over the next 8 hrs. requiring laparotomy and single stitch closure of the bowel. Over the past 3 years I have been doing using the trocar only with "closed" technique.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
