Re: Circs/Pain/complicationsFrom: Arthurfree@aol.comFri Aug 15 17:39:15 1997
In a message dated 97-08-15 09:54:58 EDT, you write: << The Mohel only can use a Mogan clamp. The Gomco crushes tissue and that makes it not Kosher. I suspect the bump was from a Mogan clamp.

>> The Mogen crushes less tissue (it is a "knife edge" clamp), but the mechanism of hemostasis with all of these clamps is that a small amount of crushed devitalized tissue remains on the margin of healthy tissue. This is why "clamp time" is somewhat important with both (more so for the Gomco)- the tissue needs to be completely devitalized to prevent bleeding. Speaking of "knife edge" clamps, is there anyone out there who still uses a Sheldon clamp? Arthur Freeland Warrensburg Missouri

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
