Ashley, You took the words right out of my mouth. I've talked to many women who thought they were going to get a wonderful doctor just because they went to a woman, and were very disappointed. PLEASE....NO FLAMES FOR THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT!!!! IT'S JUST A THOUGHT!! I suspect that women think that a woman doctor will be more caring and motherly (and we all could use more mothering!!) but when they don't find those attributes in a female doctor, the women find it easier to accept those more "manly" attributes (that you mentioned) in a male doctor. Of course, we all want to be wanted for those things we value most in ourselves, and when we are set apart because of something that we have worked hard to down-play, such as our gender, it makes us feel uncomfortable.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
