It is an operation called tubal ligation with minilaparatomy. When I was a resident at Dr. Zekai Tahir Burak Womens' Hospital in Ankara, Turkey during 1986-1990 one of our Chief of service had gone to Manila, Philippines for a course on the topic. Later Ministry of Health in Turkey supported this method. And an organisation called AVSC (access to voluntary and safe contraception) which is located in the USA provided financial aid for this aim. They train Obgyn MD's even from private hospitals to perform tubal ligation with minilaparatomy under local anestesia. Three months ago I attended such a one week course at Eskisehir Maternity Hospital Eskisehir, Turkey. One colleague at sixth decade from a Private Hospital from Istanbul Turkey was really surprised how patients tolerated the operation easily under local anesthesia.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
