Re: 19 yr old with vaginismusFrom: Douglas L. Madsen (dlmmd@fidalgo.net)Wed Aug 6 01:49:04 1997
Sorry it has taken so long to respond, but babies still seem to have their own sense of priority.:) My original post gave no actual numbers(don't have time to compile the precise numbers) but the incidence of both past and/or current abuse is probably about 15-25% combined. This includes sexual, verbal, physical. Until we started specifically asking, we rarely got a volunteered positive Hx, so the difference has truly surprised me. The patient population we serve is about 50% pvt.insurance, 35-40% welfare, 10-15%HMO. The abuse reported crosses all socioeconomic lines. And No, not all patients with vaginismus have been sexually abused, but it bears being explored. Doug Doug Madsen, MD, FACOG Pvt. Practice Mount Vernon, WA

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
