Re: *Elective* primary C/SFrom: James Taylor (taylorj@texas.net)Tue Aug 5 11:48:08 1997
---------- From: J. Bulley <jbulley@cheshire.net> To: Multiple recipients of list <ob-gyn-l@talk.obgyn.net> Subject: Re: *Elective* primary C/S Date: Tuesday, August 05, 1997 6:17 AM If the patient is demanding a totally elective C/S out of fear then I would have long talks addressing the fear and perhaps use/recommend counseling (after I personally talked with the counselor - some would just say , yes she has great fear so do the C/S). Doing the C/S for her fear without gently discussing that issue only puts her at more jeopardy for other fear related disabilities later. If we do the C/S she has learned that someone she has much respect for (her doc) supports her fear and it will be "ok" to work along that disabling emotional path. Would I never do the C/S? Well .. I haven't yet, but I can see situations where that might be the only way to go for a particular person - but it would only be after much addressing of the fear issue so she would know I am not reinforcing her fear. Please clarify a statement for me. When you say, "Would I never do the C/S? Well...I haven't yet...", do you mean you haven't yet done a c/s simply because of a woman's fear of VBAC? Or that you haven't declined to perform a purely elective c/s because a woman feared VBAC? Jen Taylor

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
