Re: docs at 2 hospitals and carsFrom: Anna Nickels (annan@awhonn.org)Tue Aug 5 10:24:50 1997
Dear Bob, As a longtime L&D nurse, I can honestly say that it is really tough to have to tell a patient that her doctor is at the hospital "down the road and will be here ASAP" when she is demanding to see her doc. We usually tried to skirt the issue as long as possible. Even worse is to have to catch the baby (no residents in this hospital and the ER doc would stand in the door and watch) when the doc couldn't make it or couldn't find a colleague to cover. I once saw a husband punch out a doc when he finally got there... the patient was peacefully sleeping her way through transition with a full motor block epidural!! It might be "cost effective", but it doesn't seem to me to be "care effective". Your colleague, Anna Romig Nickels, RNC, BSN Washington, DC BTW- about cars: '88 LeBaron (husband loves, everyone else hates- only when necessary), '91 Voyager (really mine- kids hate, leftover from carpooling days), '93 4WD Explorer (main driver 17 yo dtr), '94 Mustang (main driver 19 yo son). Before you ask... my husband and I have the policy that we OWN the cars... the kids rent from us... sooo- we drive'em when we want'em. :-)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
