Group B screening

I have been following the thread about GBS screening. I believe that last year's CDC guidelines encourage the use of Todd-Hewitt Broth for detecting GBS from rectovaginal swabs. If you use solid agar plates you miss about 50% of your positives. Unfortunately it seems that hospital micro labs are hesitant to do the broth cultures because of the additional expense and hassle. Does anyone know what their hospitals are doing? - Kevin Ault, MD University of Iowa

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
