I once saw an intern put her foot in her mouth a few hours after she was taught about the "Ferguson reaction" where oxytocin is allegedly released after membrane stripping or amniotomy. She was presenting a patient during morning board rounds and stated " I Fergusonized her to speed up her labor." William O'Brien, another stickler for such phrases, proceeded to "correct" her abuse of the obstetric language in a way that only one's attending can.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
