Re: Breast Feeding & MortalityFrom: J. Bulley (jbulley@cheshire.net)Wed Jul 30 20:46:42 1997
Anecdotal, I know - Also Breast feeding was not the CAUSE - BUT we had a patient delivered in February one year, collapse while breast feeding and die of an MI on Thanksgiving day.... Long code done by the EMT's and ER staff before calling it... I never heard if an autopsy was done and if there was some odd cardiac defect. You asked about "ever hear of..." At any rate many great comments out there. AFTER the fact of giving up on breast feeding I am supportive of the Mom as many do have severe guilt feelings. BEFORE delivery we should all really emphasize the benes - as one of you said - our cultural norm does not support it - although it supports it much more now than when I delivered 14 years ago. Agreed - often most of what is needed is reassurance that the mom CAN do it. J Bulley

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
