Re: Lactation Consultant and Breastfeeding PromotionFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comWed Jul 30 14:41:11 1997
In a message dated 7/30/97 2:19:02 PM, you wrote: <<The comparison of pregnancy, delivery, and home birth to breast feeding is really "intelligent". When is the last time anyone had a breast feeding mortality, do you have any statistics on the morbidity and mortality of breast feeding?? I have never met a lactation consultant that I couldn't live without! >> Not mortality but morbidity... Our Pediatrics chairman, who's a nutrition expert, recently did grand rounds and presented a kid (several of which he's seen) who had REALLY BAD failure to thrive and hypernatremia because of elevated Na+ in the mother's milk. Apparently this is some sort of syndrome... If they had waited, the baby WOULD have been a breast feeding mortality. Well... you asked. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
