Re: Fosamax PLUS estrogen?From: Dan Logen (pdl@whidbey.net)Wed Jul 30 01:20:41 1997

Fosomax works on osteoclasts, > which break down bone, slowing down their activity. > Linda Morrison-Boczar, MD, MBA, FACOG > Private Practice - Sarasota, FL At the meetings I have attended, the professors have said that estrogen and Fosamax both inhibit osteoclast activity. The fact that they have the same mechanism of action is why it is questionable that concomitant use would be efficacious. It is my understanding also that studies are being done to answer this question. As mentioned in my previous post it makes sense to me that this question can be answered in each individual patient with a combination of NTX and bmd testing over 12 to 18 months.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
