Re: adnexal cyst in a 27-wk-pregnancyFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comWed Jul 23 20:15:13 1997
In a message dated 7/23/97 8:08:07 PM, you wrote: <<A thin 20 y/o pregnant woman came to her first prenatal visit at 27 wks of gestation, in which a pelvic mass was palpated. The U/S ordered revealed a 5.5 x 7.0 cm adnexal cyst, with features compatible with a "simple" ovarian cyst (unilocular, thin-walled, no septations or internal echoes). She has been completely asymptomatic so far. At this point, what is the most recommended management? Observe with follow-up U/S scans? Exploratory laparotomy?>> Since she's so far along already, I'd follow with scans and await delivery. If it were earlier in gestation, maybe a lap... but not now. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
