Re: Anti-thrombosis prophylaxis ( was Estrogen therapy after surgical castrat...From: Ealgail@aol.comSun Jul 20 15:45:51 1997
I have always given mini-dose Heparin prophylaxis on cancer patients, obese patients, and elderly patients, depending on their multitude of meds. Of course, I always convert all Coumadin patients to mini-dose Heparin pre and post op. The old literature was very supportive of mini-dose heparin but I noticed current trend is to use pneumo-stockings intra/post op. Mini-dose heparin is cheaper; but we haven't begun doing any clinical trials of cost/benefit analysis. Linda Linda Morrison-Boczar, MD, MBA, FACOG Private Practice - Sarasota, FL

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
