We screen by history and/or suspicion.

I have heard various legal opinions about this issue over the last 14 years, including one memorable debate between 2 lawyers at a conference several years ago. The general consensus is that for maximal legal protection of the health care provider in the state of California women must consent to being screened, however if they refuse screening their infants can be screened without consent following the delivery.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
