Re: C/S and statureFrom: Anna Nickels (annan@awhonn.org)Wed Jul 16 10:29:28 1997
Well, I know that it is not "evidence-based" practice, but "old" L&D nurses (yes, this includes me <vbg>) will ask a woman's shoe size or look at her feet and place bets, in the nurses lounge, on when the section will be. Anecdotally, we are right more times than you would think!! Two days after my first C/S, my boss (a nurse with 40 years of OB experience who had been on vacation when the C/S was done) came in, looked at my size 6.5 feet, and said to my Dr., "Well, Gordon, just what did you expect?". She then looked at me and said, "Didn't I tell you during orientation that foot size is one of the best indicators?" And, yes, before you ask, she did predict for every one of "her" nurses' first pregnancies and she was almost always right! Is this the "art" part of medicine and nursing? Just a thought to lighten the day- Your colleague, Anna Romig Nickels, RNC, BSN AWHONN Senior Practice Specialist Washington, DC annan@awhonn.org

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
