A woman posted this message to the Women's Health Forum. I thought it was unusual enough to bring it over to the OBGYN-L. Any comments?

Dear Doctors,

Over the past few years, my periods have become more and more painful, and have recently been getting much heavier too. The loss of blood makes me very weak and I have nausea almost every day.(This has been going on for three years, I had endoscopies and other tests, and my GI said its most likely due to something hormonal/gyn. I have always had discharge, but within the past few months, it has been getting heavier. It's thin, and has a strong odor. But what baffles (me and) all of the doctors is that the discharge is blue.

After my period, it becomes yellow, but then around midcycle until I start my period, it gets a very deep blue. No one has ever heard of this. I seem to get worse menstrual like cramps when the discharge is blue...tho it may be coincidental since its after midcycle.

I have a few health conditions, but none seem to explain this. I will be having a laparoscopy and cystoscopy soon to check for endometriosis. <family history of menstrual problems> I've also had a large pilonidal cyst removed last Nov...the discharge started before this...As there was a large opening that had to heal from the inside-out, it had to be packed every day. My nurse discovered one day that on the dressing that was the deepest inside, there was a blue coloring, identical to my discharge. This appeared frequently, she and my surgeon also had no idea what it was. It makes me wonder if maybe this is more than a gynecological problem.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be, or if its connected to any of my other symptoms? Where might I find some ansswers?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
