Bob, The Brca 1 has an 80% predictive value for breasrt cancer and 60% for ovarian cancer giving an overall cancer rate of approximately 100%. A mutation of this gene occursw in 1% of Ashkenazi women. The Brca 2 gene mutations occur in 0.5% of Ashkenazi women and the rate of breast cancer is also 80% with the rate of ovarian cancer being less than the above noted 60% (sorry can't remember the number..it's at the office and I'm at home). There are multiple papers on these stats and anyone of them via a Medline search will convince a true scientific mind. If not, you'll just have to hang around more Ashkenazi women ;-)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
