Regarding Hepatitis B vaccine- I can only share my personal experience with this situation. When my children (now 19 and 17) required their freshman high school sports physical, our wonderful FP and my professional colleague "invited me out of the room" (with my agreement) and discussed this vaccine, dangerous life style choices, and health concerns and issues with the kids. Since they had known him for 5 years (and perhaps because they had received complete sex ed from their parents and schools), they were comfortable sharing what they knew to be COMPLETELY confidential information with him. They then received the first of their HepB without a signed consent, received patient information brochures in case they thought of any questions they didn't want to ask him (or me), and went on to pass this info on to the sex ed. teachers at the high school. I assumed that this was a common practice (and I never asked what they talked about in the room, but both son and daughter shared the info after about a week!)

Just got back from the AWHONN convention so I hope this reply is not too dated as I plow through 300 e-mails and 50 voice mails! Your colleague, Anna Romig Nickels, RNC, BSN AWHONN Senior Practice Specialist Washington, DC annan@awhonn.org

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
