Robertson MD: ""labial trimming"" Next in thread: Ronald Helm: "Re: "labial trimming"" In my vast experience with this problem, I only operated on one patient who was very adamant, and I too used interrupted 3-0 chromic for closure and hemostasis, and post-operatively the healing resulted in a scalloped edge to each labia minora. It looked like I had used pinking shears, and I jokingly labeled the patient, "Frilly Dilly", we have remained good friends for the past twelve years, so she is apparently happy with the outcome :-) Ron << About two weeks ago I had a patient in who claimed that her labia majora (her words) were too large and they were embarrasing her and interfering with her sex life. I have seen a similar request before when in residency. Once the attending refused sayin it would do more harm than good and that the pain and scaring from the surgery could cause permanent problems for intercourse. The other time the attending consented and the lady had her surgery done. I know that the second lady was not happy with her result, and since then I have taken the first approach. Does anyone else have experience in this area? >> John, I had a similar patient 8 years ago. Removed the excess labial tissue (minora) in the OR and closed the edges with 3-0 chromic. She did fine and was happy not having the pain of the labia being "pinched" during relations.
