My opinion is that the Papnet and Thinprep systems are ridiculous. A case of consumerism antedating the science and benefit. The traditional pap smear is a near perfect screening tool being easy to perform, inexpensive, mand effective for significantly reducing the incidence of cervical cancer. Given the slow progression of cervical atypias, the occassional false negatives are acceptable assuming patient compliance. Perhaps these other methods would allow longer intervals between screening, however, no data supports this contention. Until then, I wish these companies would stop running these ads, do the research, and maybe find me a good screening test as effective as the pap smear for colon cancer.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
