Re: 63 year old momFrom: Betsy Hyde (elishyde@connix.com)Fri Apr 25 17:25:21 1997
I have mixed feelings re: 63 year olds becoming parents. I feel that it is probably unfair to the child, and may well result in having an orphan just at the time when college tuition is due. Should a generous life insurance policy be prerequisite? However, I am disturbed at the sexism inherent in many of these posts. For many years, men have fathered children at "advanced paternal age", or "older than dirt" as some one referred to some aging movie star who just had a child. In the US, men are the major wage earners. Despite advances in earnings by women, it is more typical that, within a couple, the male would be the major wage earner. Therefore, *they* are the ones whose reproductive capabilities might well be restricted/questioned/scrutinized. So, how 'bout it guys? For those of you who are aghast that ART be used to enable a 63 year old woman to give birth...do you feel the same way about spontaneous conceptions with a 63 year old father?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
