There is a good IUD removing forceps with the hinge inside its 3-4 mm flexible canula, so that the jaws open inside the uterine cavity. Made by Zeppelin (16868 GY) and Rocket of London (R29091). I trialed it some time ago on a backlog of referrals for 'lost coils' and succeeded in 41 of 45 cases as an office procedure (Br J Fam Plan 1988;14:91-3). If that fails, I would not proceed to GA - if this IUD did not cause problems in the last 25 years, I doubt whether it will over the next 25. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
