In rmarts8499@aol.com defense...

I removed 26 fake subscriptions to ob-gyn-l over a 5 day period from last weekend and earlier this week. Last week, PC Computing magazine had this clever article about shareware that you can find & use to automatically subscribe somebody to over 600 mailing lists. One of these is ob-gyn-l. Sounds like the midwife list is another.

Once this happens to you, there is virtually nothing you can do except give up on your email account and close it down. Else, you have to go unsubscribe yourself from all those lists which will take days. Most people don't have a clue what happenned to them when the e-mail bombardment begins.

There are now 3 or 4 list administrator e-mail lists dedicated to the subject of e-mail list abuse. The predominant suggestion is to upgrade your list processor so that you must send a second e-mail verifying a list subscription request.

In the interim, I have been monitoring ob-gyn-l every day for fake subscriptions for the past month. I will be installing software shortly that filters out suspicious subscribes and forwards them to me for approval.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
