Dr. Joe (and anyone else that would like to comment) I agree with your reasoning for the monitoring whole-heartedly, however, I must comment from a legal standpoint (and this is a question, not a statement or position): would it not be safer to do intermittent FHR as opposed to continuous so that subtle fluctuations in FHR would not be construed as an hypoxic event for the fetus thus opening you up for problems should the baby have any problems in the future? (I am referring to the pre-viable case in question--for viable babies, I don't think that there is a question--continous monitoring would be a given as far as I would be concerned) The written element of the monitoring strip is saved for an eternity, it seems, and I would think that you are potentially opening yourself up for trouble with the continuous strip. Is this a concern? I am asking for my own information, not looking for a practice standard or policy concern--I would like to know what the general consensus is on this. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
