PC Based SonographyFrom: T Dubose (tjdubose@chrp.uams.edu)Mon Mar 31 16:11:06 1997
Does anyone know anything about Spectromed company? Below is their http://wwweb URL and a brief copy of their product descriptions. This appears to be exactly what I was trying to describe in FETAL SONOGRAPHY, in the conclusions "The Future". To quote, "The sonographic instrument I imagine would be peripheral to a standard PC, preferably a small but powerful laptop. The transducer(s) and associated electronics would acquire the sonic information and perhaps format it to a video signal. The PC, however, would display the image, be scaled for measurements, and allow labeling and image manipulation, and the measurements would be entered directly into a database or spreadsheet f the user's choice." DuBose TJ; FETAL SONOGRAPHY; W. B. Saunders Co., 1996; p. 480-481. If this turns out to be what Spectromed is doing, it will radically change sonographic equipment, rapidly. If anyone finds out about this equipment, please let me know ASAP. Thanks. Peace, Terry J. DuBose Spectromed company is developing the medical ultrasound equipment on the base of multimedia IBM PC such as: peripheral and transcranial Doppler systems ("Sonomed-300") ultrasound A-scanner ("Sonomed-315") multipurpose B-scanner ("Sonomed-400") All the equipment is based on standard IBM PC platform. This design strategy allows a wide variety of system option to be selected. All systems can be easily upgraded. The examination data can be archived in computer database and may be transferred through net or telephone line for further consultations.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
