Re: biopsy before hysterectomyFrom: Edbello@aol.comWed Mar 26 17:56:30 1997
In a message dated 97-03-25 21:02:35 EST, you write:
<< Is it necessary to obtain at least an endometrial sample biopsy before
performing a hysterectomy indicated for leiomyomatosis? Let's say it's a
patient in her 40's, with 1 year of metromenorrhagia.
>> Probably unreasonable since you are going to have a quite significant biopsy specimen after her hysterectomy and staging of adenocarcinoma of the uterus is surgically. You would probably be required to do so in a teaching institution and is probably the accepted pattern before adenocarcinoma of the uterus had surgical staging. I would remember to open the specimen and see if appears to be a carcinoma visually and if it appears to involve more than half of the myometrial thickness. Edwin Bello M.D.,F.A.C.O.G. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
