I recently researched this for a young patient wanting to start OCP's. Most papers suggested no effect of exogenous female hormones on

cutaneous melanoma. Some actually showed a decreased depth of invasion and better survival. None of the papers I found was very recent. See Cutaneous melanoma in women: ovulatory life, menopause, and use of exogenous estrogens. Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. 3(8):661-8, 1994, Dec. The influence of female hormones on malignant melanoma. Tumori 76(5):439-49, 1990 Oct. Influence of estrogen administration on tumor characteristics and survival in women with cutaneous melanoma. J of Natl Ca Inst 74(5):981-5. Cutaneous malignant melanoma in women: exogenous sex hormones and reproductive factors. Brit J of Ca 50(5):673-80, 1984 Nov. Cutaneous melanoma in relation to exogenous hormones and reproductive factors. J of Natl Ca Inst 70(5):827-31, 1983 May. Not meaning to neglect the fine authors of these papers; I just got tired of typing.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
