Estrogen and bisphonphonatesFrom: Arthurfree@aol.comThu Mar 13 23:25:09 1997
A search looking at bisphosphonates in general (not just alendronate) will turn up several studies in rats as well as the following, which appears to show some additive effect of etidronate to estrogens in treatment of osteoporosis. Wimalawansa, SJ: American Journal of Medicine 1995, July 99(1):36-42 "Combined therapy with estrogen and etidronate has an additive effect on bone mineral density in the hip and vertebrae: a four year randomized study". (note: low total N, but seems to achieve statistical significance nonetheless) Arthur Freeland Warrensburg Missouri

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
