Re: x-ray pelvimetry

The new 20th edition of Williams Obstetrics says the following on page 467: ..."Today, X-ray pelvimetry no longer is considered necessary in the management of labor with a cephalic presentation in which the mother is suspected to have a contracted pelvis..."

page 468 further states indications for X-ray pelvimetry such as ...."a woman with previous injry or disease likely to affect the bony pelvis.."

Another good (and truthful) explanation is "we have not done it in our institution for years, and nobody knows how to read it.." . That probably applies for over 95% of institutions in the US.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
