Libido and Oral Contraceptives

I thought this was the primary mechanism of action of the pill?!? (least that's what my wife tells me!) There IS follicular suppression so there goes the preovulatory rise in T. The hepatic FX of inc SHBG also contribute, and arerelated to the relative estrogenic potency. There may even be some direct CNS FX, as receptors are popping up everywhere in the limbic system these days. As long as complexion problems don't exist (ie CHA - chronic hyperandrogenic anovulatory pt.), try switching to a more androgenic formulation. tj --------------------------( Forwarded letter 1 follows )--------------------- Date: Thursday, 30 January 1997 7:40pm --------------------------( Forwarded letter 1 follows )--------------------- From: "Garry E. Opinions please:

Several times a year, a woman well established on the pill complains of decreased libido, and, doctor, could it be the pill? Upon questioning, everything else in life is usually unchanged.

Does anyone have a feeling for this, ie

1. Is it more common with certain pills, perhaps those with less androgenic side effects (Desogen, Ortho Cyclen, etc)?

2. Is it at all pill related?

3. Would changing pills (frequently requested) to a more androgenic one, such as Lo Ovral, be helpful?

What do ya'll do with this question, if you get it?
