This is precisely why state legislatures are inundated with both requests to develop licensing processes for allied health and alternative health fields (the patina of acceptability and turf) then similar bills to require third party payors to pay for services of these now licensed professionals.

As an aside, this may be one of the biggest threats to rural hospitals - that one now has to be a registered respiratory tech to give a breathing treatment (twenty four hour coverage of same), radiology techs, physical therapists and techs, lab techs, etc. We can't cross train personnel for short handed situations because everyone has to be certified in their arcane field. Nursing subspecialization may not be far behind.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
