Once the plan was instituted, there was much less uncompensated care required, and the state was covering many more people and spending more money. It is doomed only because the legislature could not bite the bullet and require employers to provide basic health insurance equal to that provided by the state for the expanded Medicaid population (I believe this was a requirement to keep the Medicaid waiver). The transition has been difficult for some providers, but on the whole, has been fairly well received. If you've kept track, the critical editorials in major medical journals have been virtually all from east coast institutions (primarily MPH types at Boston) and, as far as I can tell, have not reflected any direct experience with the Oregon plan or research on its effects. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
