Re: PAP Smear after TAHFrom: Harrison Sheld (hsheld@anv.net)Tue Dec 31 19:20:11 1996
I report one case of ovarian cancer. What else did I find in my well care follow-ups? Diabetes, hypertension, cancer of the breast on annual mammograms, depression: there are many quality of life issues that are hard to quantify. To construe the annual "pap" as only the search for pelvic neoplasia is to sell our roles as medical professionals short. I do not argue about the cost effectiveness of detecting one case of neoplasia, my point is the pap brings the patient to the doctor in a global sense for an evaluation of her health which goes beyond detecting gynecologic neoplasia. Is this not part and parcel of primary care?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
