Here's a technique that I have found very helpful in removing the cervix without shortening the vagina. Incise the cervix longitudinally until the cervical canal is entered. Grasp each edge of the incision with an Ochsner clamp and pull up. When you do this, the pubocervicovesical fascia starts to fall away from the cervix and can easily be advaced with the handle of the scalpel. Then continue incising the cervix distally and continue to advance the ochsner clamps until the vagina is entered. Then resect the cervix from the vagina.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
