Re: micronized oral progesteroneFrom: PDBurstein@aol.comTue Dec 31 16:15:42 1996
You are right. The equivalent dose of MPA 2.5 mg would be one Micronor. For cyclic use, two Micronor for 12 to 14 days per cycle would be appropriate. I have had some success with both regimens. The concern for using micronized oral progesterone is that the drugs for the PEPI study are not available in the United States. The sources, such as Women's International Pharmacy in Monona, Wisconsin, are not regulated by the FDA, therefore no data on stability, bioavailability, serum levels, shelf life, and therapeutic equivalence exists. I have, with some trepidation, placed patients on micronized oral progesterone, but would feel much more comfortable with real data to back me up. The dose I have used, taken from the PEPI trials, has been 200 mg for 12 days per month. To my knowlege, this is not covered by insurance, but patients complain less about this than making their required co-payments for our services. Paul Burstein Paul D. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
