One of my schools received this fax on Metro Police Letterhead. Thought it should be passed on:

PC FAX WORKING TOGETHER TO PREVENT CRIME DECEMBER 11, 1996

NOTICE TO BUSINESSES OPERATING COMPUTER SYSTEMS

An internet virus is being sent to users in the form of an E-mail message with the subject line ÒDEEYENDA" DO NOT SELECT AND READ THE MESSAGE, delete it from your mail immediately. Do not down load the file. The Computer virus will rewrite your hard drive obliterating all files destroying your data system.

This virus has spread to USENET posting, E-Mail, and other Internet activities. The virus is a Security risk as the program searches your system for E-mail login passwords, Credit Cards and personal information. The Virus referred to as "DEEYENDA MADDIK" has been designed to stay in the resident memory of any computer running a Windows environment 3.1, 3.1.1 and Windows Ô95.

Passwords and information are copied by the program and sent t an unknown address (varies at will of the program).

TO DATE THIS COMPUTER VIRUS IS UNDETECTABLE

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
