here's my $).02:

with regard to congenital heart disease, there is no question that prenatal diagnosis may favorably alter outcome by allowing the affected child to be born in the appropriate birth setting with the appropriate team in attendance. here is one situation in which the child's illness may not be obvious at birth. infact, there are now all too many instances in which children were discharged home in good condition only to be rushed back to the hospital in extremis. additionally, moms and babies have been separated as the baby is transferred to the specialty neonatal hospital while poor mom recovers in another. the question is quite complex, but as the focus of prenatal diagnosis begins to shift from termination if abnormal to correction of correctable problems, the choices may seem more clear.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
