Re: "Placental lake"From: T Dubose (tjdubose@chrp.uams.edu)Tue Dec 10 08:48:10 1996
Placental lake is a generic term applied to a number of hypoechoic focal areas of the placenta. They may exhibit slow flow with Doppler and have also been defined as a *villous free nodular focus of coagulated blood in the intervillous space* (Townsend RR, in: Callen P; Ultrasonography in OB Gyn, W. B. Saunders 1994, p. 457-458). Lakes become more prevalent as the gestation and placenta mature. They don+t seem to be significant in most cases. There has been some association in an increased number of lakes near areas of placental accreta. Hope this helps. Terry J. What is exactly placental lakes. What is its clinical significance? I.Ben-OR, MD
