Bone DensityFrom: Theresa333@aol.comSat Nov 30 10:00:40 1996
I have ordered the density scans in my patients with risk factors ( thyroid disease, long term steroid users, etc.) and have found serial measurements helpful in following the aggressive CO-management of their disease with the internist/ rheumatologist. I was suprised that patients' are not often advised about general preventive measures (HRT, calcium, and exercise) by specialists treating them for KNOWN osteoporosis. I have also had patients demand testing who do not have risk factors other than menopause and sedentary lifestyle who have suprised me with moderate osteoporosis. The rheumatologists have been recommending dual agents like Fosamax AND calcitonin, without mentioning estrogen or calcium supplementation in their consultations...any comments?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
